How to Increase your Torrent Speed

Torrents are the fun way of sharing large files with family, friends and with a wider audience. But sometimes it gets annoying with slow downloading and uploading speed. So if you are not satisfied with the current speed, below we have mentioned few techniques through which you can enhance the downloading speed of your torrents.

For safer and faster torrents, get a seedbox.

Check Your Internet Connection Speed

First of all check the maximum upload and download speed of your connection. Obviously, to attain higher downloading speed you need to have a faster connection, whether you are downloading from torrent, any other downloader or directly through web browser. There are lots of websites available on internet where you can test your bandwidth. One of the most popular website to check your connection speed is – http://www.speedtest.net/. Note that you have to stop all downloading, uploading and browsing activities while testing to get the accurate results.

Don’t get confused between kB/s and kb/s. The abbreviation kB/s stands for kilobytes/second and kb/s stands for kilobits/second. To be more specific, 1 byte = 8 bits, therefore 1 kB/s = 8kb/s. So if websites gives you result in kilobytes/second (kB/s), just divide it by 8 to get the speed in kilobits/second (kb/s).

Select The Healthy Torrent Files

This is a very important step. When you search torrents for files you want to download like software, movies, music etc., many different torrents appears in the search result. Always choose the torrents with the best seed/peer ratio.

Seeds are those who have already downloaded the file and are now helping others to download it by uploading.

Peers or Leachers are those who are downloading the file right now. When you start downloading from torrent you also becomes as the Peer to that torrent.

The torrents that have more seeds than peers are the good torrents, as more seeds mean more number of downloading servers which means faster downloading speed. More peers mean many leachers will download from the same downloading servers, and will decrease the downloading speed.

Turn Off Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall blocks or restricts P2P clients like uTorrent and BitTorrent. So for faster downloading speed just Turn off your Windows firewall. If you don’t want to completely turn off your Windows firewall, unblock your torrent application from Windows firewall.

To do that, open your uTorrent application. Now go to Options > Preference. There you will see many tabs on right hand side. Click on Connection tab and check the box ‘Add Windows Firewall exception’.

Change the Default Port

Torrent Applications like uTorrent and BitTorrent uses their default ports for downloading and uploading. These default ports generate a lot of traffic as all users are using the same port for sharing data. So isp’s restricts the connection offered on the these ports. Change the default ports for better downloading speed. Just Google it and you can find faster and better ports easily all over the internet.
